If you are over 35 years of age, like reading books by African American/Black authors, would like to discuss and hear other's perspectives on books and would like to meet in locations where we can have coffee, desert and or lunch, this meetup is for you. The Henry George School of Social Science was founded to acquaint the public with concepts presented in the writings of the great American political economist, Henry George, author of the classic, Progress and Poverty. Henry George reconciled the great paradox facing all civilizations: In spite of all our progress, why are there fewer jobs than there are workers? How is it that so many who are willing and able to work, unable to find gainful employment? At the end of his investigations, Henry Ge …

Hi…I’m Debbie Wallace, Author, Motivational Speaker, and Life Coach of “Golden Thoughts Inc.” and Facilitator of Christian Real Talk for Women. In the recent past, I came to a crossroad and discovered that my life wouldn’t change for the better until I stopped conforming to the things of the world and committed to being transformed by the renewing of my mind and my thoughts. Accepting this challenge of ‘transformation’ required a lot of soul searching and being honest with self and I found th …
As artists, we spend most of our creative time alone. Creating art is a very singular, solitary task. With "The Artist's Way" as a guide, we can create a community of support and encouragement. The following quote from the author's website sums it up: "When The Artist's Way was first published, I expressed a wish for Artist’s Way groups to spring into being. I envisioned them as peer-run circles—“creative clusters”—where people would serve one another as believing mirrors, uniting with the …

Hi, folks! The other day I head NPR interview Clay Johnson, the author of a new book called The Information Diet. It's about how we can take conscious measures to overcome our natural tendency toward confirmation bias, i.e., only seeking out and taking in information that reinforces what we already believe. This has motivated me to start a study group. Beyond discussing the book itself, we could meet in an ongoing way to assist one another in overcoming bias.
LATEST: Meetups to be scheduled soon (next couple of weeks), probably every 2-4 weeks, probably late afternoon on Saturdays (~2pm), probably a center city coffee shop, possibly university city/west philly ~34th-45th, possibly south philly ~8th and Christian-ish. Please message me through the meetup interface with suggestions and preferences. This group is for deeply analytical people who are simultaneously, actively engaged in some sort of contemplative path (e.g. Vipassana, Zazen, etc.) and som …

When Skinner wrote Walden Two in the summer of 1945, Hitler was dead, the Depression was forgotten, Russia was a trusted ally, Hiroshima hadn't been nuked, and wisps of smog seemed to be the environment's greatest threat. In that idyllic historical context, Skinner's blueprint defined "an environment in which people [would] just naturally do the things they need to do to maintain themselves (with something to spare for the future) and trust each other well, and then just naturally do a hundred …
Do you want to write "me too" fiction or do you think you can do better? Do you want to be one of the ten percent that succeed? Would a group that provides external expectation help you motivate? This is intended to be a focused group of science fiction and fantasy writers who want to help each other with ongoing projects. We usually hold bi-weekly meetings on weekends or weeknights depending on what members want. This would be a creative group that helps you flex your writing muscles, by using …
